Blog #6: Cult Lotions P50

Biologique Recherche’s Lotion P50 launched more than 40 years ago and has become a cult favourite and one of my must-haves in skincare.

The legend of P50 starts in an unexpected place: with a love story. Before there was Biologique Recherche, there was Yvan and Josette Allouche — a biologist and physiotherapist, respectively. "My father was totally in love with my mother, all his life," Dr. Philippe Allouche, Biologique Recherche's co-owner and head of creation, and Yvan and Josette's son, tells me. "He prepared products for her and for the patients at the clinics she ran in and around Paris." Yvan came up with the formulation; Josette, a proponent of integrative medicine, came up with the application technique. "For her," Dr. Allouche says, "the epidermis was the interface to connect to the rest of the body."

P50 was not made to be beautiful, or glamorous, or to not smell like it's been pickled. It was made to work. "My father understood that skin had to be respected, and he wanted to create something to rebuild the epidermis," Dr. Allouche says. "He thought it would be better to have a gradual, soft exfoliation with acids that could also enrich the natural moisturizing factor in our skin." True, exfoliating is something that the skin does naturally, as its own organic process, but it slows down with age. The Allouches wanted to create something to help speed it up while reinforcing the strength of the epidermis and the skin's natural protective functions.

In 1970, Yvan Allouche created the first Lotions P50, exfoliating lotions for daily use. This unique, progressive, purifying, cleansing, reconditioning exfoliating care product helps the epidermis regain and express its original regenerative property. Lotion P50

Lotion P50  is a multi-purpose lotion which exfoliates, purifies, cleanses, sanitizes and regenerates the epidermis. The cornerstone of Biologique Recherche's epidermal reconditioning method, it is adapted to Seborrheic and/or Keratinized Skin.

Exfoliating active ingredients: Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs); Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA); Salicylic acid; Cider Vinegar; Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA); Phytic Acid; Sulfur.

Purifying active ingredients: Magnesium Chloride; Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide); Extracts of horseradish, Burdock, Myrtle, Myrrh, Onion.

Sebum Regulating active ingredients: Sorrel extract; Thyme essential oil.

Lotion P50V

Lotion P50V is a vitamin-enriched exfoliating lotion which gently purifies, tones, smoothes, moisturizes and helps maintain an acid pH. The cornerstone of Biologique Recherche's epidermal reconditioning method, it is adapted to Devitalized Skin or Skin of lacking tone.

Exfoliating active ingredients: Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs); Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA); Salicylic acid; Cider Vinegar; Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA); Phytic Acid; Sulfur.

Lotion P50W

Lotion P50W is an exfoliating lotion which gently purifies, smoothes, moisturizes and rebalances the pH of the epidermis. The cornerstone of Biologique Recherche's epidermal reconditioning method, it is adapted to Fine and/or Reactive Skin.

Exfoliating active ingredients: Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs); Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA): Salicylic acid; Cider Vinegar; Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA); Phytic Acid; Sulfur; Natural Moisturizing Factor reconstitutes (NMF).

Purifying active ingredients: Magnesium Chloride; Vitamine B3 (Niacinamide); Extract of  Horseradish, Burdock, Capsicum, Soapbark.

Smoothing active ingredients: Extract of Arnica.

Lotion P50 PIGM 400

Lotion P50 PIGM 400 is an exfoliating and lightening lotion that is ideal for dull complexions with hyperpigmentation marks. It promotes the reconditioning of the epidermis and helps regulate melanin synthesis while respecting and protecting the skin. This is a complete solution to reveal skin that is luminous and radiant with an even and lightened complexion.
